Project Connect

Project Connect is an HIV Healthcare Insurance Policy. NMP+ is working in partnership with Star Insurance and Population Services International (PSI), a non-profit society which began operations in India in 1988. The insurance is subsidised by PSI with funding from USAID.

We started offering the insurance to positive people in Maharashtra in December 2008. The first insurance camp was held in Pune in March 2009. Since then there have been 11 camps in 10 districts. 1154 people have been tested for CD4, of which 52% were eligible for the policy. At the end of October 2009, the total of members insured was 435.

The project is currently running in the following ten districts, each of which has a district coordinator: Ahmednagar, Chandrapur, Yawatmal, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Sangali, Satara, Solapur, Pune, and Raigad. Besides Maharashtra, Project Connect is also implemented in, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamilnadu.
